We-Ko-Pa Golf Club in Fort McDowell, Ariz., has made several personnel changes. Head golf professional Brett Trenter has been promoted to general manager; he replaces Jeff Lessig, who moved to the OB Sports-managed Indian Wells Golf Resort in Indian Wells, Calif.
We-Ko-Pa promoted Derek Crawford to director of golf operations after serving as director of sales and marketing since the club opened in December 2001. Finally, Matt Barr was promoted from assistant golf professional to head golf professional.
Trenter served as the head golf professional at We-Ko-Pa since June 2004. Prior to We-Ko-Pa, Trenter was the head golf professional at The Pointe Golf Club at Lookout Mountain in Phoenix. From 1996 through 2002, Trenter worked at Grayhawk Golf Club, in Scottsdale, Ariz. Trenter earned Class-A certification from the PGA in 2000; among other involvement, he serves on the Arizona Open Committee. An Illinois native, Trenter and his wife Stephanie of 13 years reside in Scottsdale.
A Phoenix native, Derek Crawford has close to 30 years experience in the golf business. Prior to We-Ko-Pa, he served as a sales representative for many quality golf brands including Fidra, PING, Tour Edge and Royal Precision. He also has held positions as director of golf for StoneCreek Golf Club in Phoenix and head golf professional for Gainey Ranch Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Barr has more than 12 years experience at public, private and resort golf facilities. He has served as the assistant golf professional at We-Ko-Pa since May 2005. Prior to We-Ko-Pa, Barr was an assistant golf professional at The Boulders Resort in Carefree, Ariz., head golf professional at Glade Springs Resort in Daniels, W.V., and head golf professional at Carolina National Golf Club in Bolivia, N.C. A Class-A member of the PGA, Barr is a graduate of Monmouth College in Monmouth, Ill.
We-Ko-Pa Golf Club is a daily fee golf facility that consists of the original 18 holes, the Cholla course, designed by Scott Miller and a second 18 holes, the Saguaro course, designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw. In addition to the two 18-hole courses, there is a large practice facility, a full-service clubhouse and a smaller clubhouse serving the new Saguaro Course.
