Waikoloa, Hawaii - The Waikoloa Beach & Golf Resort will host The Fourth Annual Waikoloa Women’s Golf Challenge Oct. 21 to 23, 2005.
Women will participate in two-lady teams placed into flights by handicap. The tournament will take place Oct. 22 on the Waikoloa Kings’ Course and Oct. 23 on the Waikoloa Beach Course. Practice rounds will be available Oct. 21. Waikoloa’s LPGA touring professional Cindy Rarick will take a swing for select charities on a par-3 hole during tournament days.
Along with the golf challenge, participants will be able to enjoy other activities throughout the weekend such as spa pampering or swimming with the dolphins. Socializing events will include a welcome reception and draw party, a dinner and auction, and a tournament awards luncheon.
“The Waikoloa Women’s Golf Challenge allows female golfers, one of the largest growing markets in the sport, to show off their skills on two sensational golf courses,” says Dave Pritchett, Waikoloa’s director of golf.
All proceeds from the event and the silent auction will benefit two Hawaii charities: the Hawaii State Women’s Golf Foundation, which provides financial aid for women’s tournaments, workshops, clinics and educational scholarships, and the Waikoloa Foundation, which perpetuates Hawaiian culture by ensuring that authentic Hawaiian experiences are available to visitors and residents.
“Hawaii has produced great female golfers in the past five years and the biggest challenge that the state faces is financial support for the young women athletes,” says Lily Yao, co-chair, Hawaii State Women’s Golf Foundation. “The Hawaii State Women’s Golf Foundation is the only organization to sponsor female golfers and the foundation is very proud to be able to support the women’s team representing Hawaii at the nationals this year.”
The tournament entry fee is $675, which includes a practice round, cocktail reception and draw party on Friday night, continental breakfast on Saturday and Sunday, two-day tournament, first-class tee package, Saturday evening dinner and auction, awards luncheon on Sunday and a choice of a Dolphin Encounter or a Kohala Spa Treatment at Hilton Waikoloa Village.
