Hawai’i Island’s oldest golf course reopens for play

The Troon-managed course has provided golfers with panoramic views of Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea for more than a century.

Volcano Golf Course, Hawai’i Island’s first and oldest golf course, welcomed back golfers this week after being closed for nearly two years. Golfers are back enjoying the natural beauty and panoramic views of the challenging par-72 golf course.

“The Volcano Golf Course has served the Hawai’i Island community for over 100 years,” said general manager Dawn Crozier of Indigo Sports, the course’s management company. “It was great to see golfers again enjoying the unique golf experience that this course has to offer.”

For more than a century, Volcano Golf Course guests have been treated to panoramic views of both Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea while playing alongside endemic ‘ohi’a trees that bloom vibrant red, and the nene, Hawai’i’s state bird that nest throughout the property. The 18-hole golf course is set on the rim of the active Kilauea volcanic crater 4,000 feet above the sea, making it a truly unique golfing experience.
