Video workshop marks milestone

EPIC Creative Communications recently sold its 10,000th title of Superintendent’s Video Workshop, a training resource for golf course superintendents.

West Bend, Wis.  – EPIC Creative Communications recently sold its 10,000th title of Superintendent’s Video Workshop, a training resource for golf course superintendents.

Introduced 14 years ago, SVW was developed to meet golf course superintendents’ needs for golf course maintenance-specific training materials for their crew. EPIC collaborated with superintendent Paul Latshaw to help develop content for the first five SVW titles.

“We introduced our first five titles in 1992 at the GCSAA Show in Dallas,” says Jim Becker, president of EPIC. “Our initial titles covered basic instructional needs like greens mowing, safety basics and ride-on and hand-held equipment operations. The response was overwhelming. Not only did we sell a lot, but we received suggestions for future titles too.”

Today, SVW offers 32 titles covering everything from basic maintenance procedures to advanced topics like spreader calibration, irrigation winterization and tips for an OSHA-friendly maintenance facility. Each title offers advice on how to achieve the highest quality standards with the focus consistently on safety and overall attention to detail. Although popular methods of maintenance techniques are detailed in each program, it is stressed that the crew should defer to the method preferred by their supervisor.

The SVW training series also includes a handbook verbally outlining each portion of the video training, as well as a test the superintendent can administer to his crew. Every title is available on VHS tape or DVD and many titles are available in Spanish.
