Let’s do this down and dirty. A video that quickly and easily shows off what you do as a maintenance team is a cheap and accessible way for you to recruit younger workers. They can also share the video and help you spread the word. Sure, you can make it fancy and polished and beautifully produced but for a trial attempt put something basic together and go for it.
Think to include
Keep it short and sweet. Describe the property, the position and contact information. Include a mobile number that interested candidates can send a text to or call (email is more cumbersome for younger workers). Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter or TikTok contact info will also work. Consider setting up a recruiting account to keep it organized. Interested candidates want a contact and an immediate response whenever possible and that’s your property’s best chance to develop some momentum with each enquiring person.
Film it
Aim for a video length of less than a minute, with 45 to 60 seconds being ideal. This is more about spreading the word than starting an onboarding process though stick to your brand. Share your professional enthusiasm but BE AUTHENTIC. Workers want to get a sense of what they are going to be doing with who, although you don’t need to share every detail to get started. There are lots of ways to record and edit videos with software and apps but even one thoughtful minute of talking and walking with a friend and your phone will do the trick.
Share, share, share
Post it everywhere. Twitter, YouTube, on your property website, Instagram, TikTok and wherever else you can think of. Send it to your crew, friends, family, local high schools, trade schools and coaches so they can send it to others.
Bonus content
The contact information in the video can belong to anyone who is available to rapidly respond. Have a form ready to send for completion or make some time for a quick phone interview. Again, keep it short and sweet. Be clear with expectations for productivity and hours. Maybe offer the chance to make a video to an interested member of your crew, with some parameters. You could end up with something fantastic and a recruiting tool that is really efficient. Get help from HR personnel if available and get approval where necessary. Get it done and get it out there. Smile, try it and go for it.
