Venice hall welcomes instructor

Ben Sutton Golf School instructor Sheryl Maize is the first female athlete to be inducted into the Venice Sports Hall of Fame.

Sun City Center, Fla. -- Ben Sutton Golf School senior instructor Sheryl Maize has been inducted into the Venice Sports Hall of Fame in her hometown of Venice, Fla.
 
Maize, the hall's first female athlete member, was formally inducted June 23 at Bogeys Restaurant in Venice. Criteria for induction was based athletic achievements and overall contributions to sports and the community.
 
"Considering the tremendous number of athletes who hail from that area, it is a tremendous honor to have Sheryl inducted into Venice Sports Hall of Fame," says Dick Sutton, president of Ben Sutton Golf School. "We are proud of Sheryl and her contributions to the game and the community."
 
A former Florida State High School champion and Junior All-American, Maize played for and captained the top-ranked University of Miami (Fla.) Hurricanes on a full scholarship before competing professionally on the Futures Tour. She has been with Ben Sutton Golf School since 1999.
 
"To be the first female inductee is an honor," says Maize. "I hope more women are encouraged to participate and achieve their goals in the game of golf."
 
Maize is one of the featured instructors in Ben Sutton Golf School's "For Women Only" classes, the first of which was conducted in May. The programs are taught exclusively by female instructors and provide a comfortable, non-intimidating learning environments for beginners and slightly more experienced women golfers.
