Pound Ridge Golf Club, legendary architect Pete Dye’s acclaimed high-end daily fee course and his only New York design, recently unveiled a 1,500 square-foot outdoor patio made from eco-friendly new building materials by VAST Composite Pavers.
In keeping with Pound Ridge Golf Club’s commitment to being environmentally conscious and vigilant stewards of the land, the product chosen for the patio flooring was a permeable composite paver from VAST Enterprises, a company that produces green building products with its patented technology that turns post-consumer recycled rubber and plastics into an eco-friendly material: composite masonry. The Pound Ridge project was the company’s first association with a golf facility.
“Safeguarding water quality on this golf course of flowing streams and adjacent wetlands and controlling the rate of runoff is a paramount concern to us in the prevention of erosion and pollutants in the water,” said Richard Lyman, who manages construction at Pound Ridge Golf Club. “Our storm water management plan requires minimizing the addition of impervious surfaces on the property and maximizing absorption of storm waters. The selection of VAST Pavers was obvious since the product had to lend itself to a permeable installation, and its appearance had to harmonize with the natural rock walls surrounding the new patio.
“What we selected looks like traditional brick pavers and they complement our signature rock walls that run throughout the golf course,” Lyman said. “The permeable version is designed for applications like our patio, and the recycled material is slip resistant and low maintenance.”
