Far Hills, N.J. – The United States Golf Association has selected Kearney Hill Golf Links in Lexington, Ky., as the site of the 2007 U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship. The dates of the championship are June 18 through 24.
Lexington Division of Parks and Recreation of the city of Lexington operates the course – designed by Pete Dye and his son, P.B. and opened in 1989. It is a Scottish links-style course, characterized by open, rolling terrain, deep sand and grass bunkers and a few trees. The wind is a very important factor in playing the course.
The course has hosted one previous USGA championship – the 1997 U.S. Amateur Public Links won by Tim Clark of South Africa.
Kearney Hill also has hosted the Senior PGA Tour’s Bank One Classic for eight years (1990 to 1997), two Kentucky State Amateurs (1992 and 1995), the 2005 Kentucky Open, Larry Gilbert Lexington Open, Celebrity Players Tour, Kentucky Women’s Amateur, Kentucky Women’s Open, PGA Junior Series, and many local and regional events.
“We are excited about the opportunity to host another USGA Championship at Kearney Hill Golf Links,” says Mike Fields, director of golf operations. “The ability to have the best women amateur players in the country come to Lexington to compete is very rewarding for Kearney Hill and the city of Lexington.”
Prior to 2007, the U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship will be played at Walking Stick Golf Course in Pueblo, Colo., from June 20 through 25, 2006.
