The University of Rhode Island will host the 74th Annual Turfgrass Field Day Aug. 17 at the C.R. Skogley Turfgrass Research Facility in Kingston, R.I.
Registration and check-in is scheduled for 7:30 to 9 a.m. with a tour of the plots and research demonstrations to follow from 9 to 11 a.m. A half-hour overseeding demonstration is set for 11 a.m.
Attendees may visit with commercial dealers following lunch or sit in on one of three educational seminars.
Dr. R. Chris Williamson will lecture on “innovative management of earthworm castings on golf course turf” from 1 to 2 p.m. From 2 to 3 p.m., he will speak about “management of black cutworms on golf courses.” Each of those seminars has a cost of $30.
Carl Sawyer, research associate at URI, will host a seminar on “weed identification and weed-control tactics.” Class size is limited to 25 and a copy of Weeds of the Northeast is included in the $40 fee.
