Troon selected to manage Alabama club

Jerry Pate-designed Steelwood Country Club opened in 1997.

Troon announced it has been selected to manage Steelwood Country Club in Loxley, Ala.

“Steelwood Country Club is a very special place. Its unparalleled amenities and secluded surroundings provide a unique private club experience unlike any other in the state,” said Jim McLaughlin, senior vice president, Troon Privé Operations. “We look forward to working with the club’s dedicated board of directors as we develop and implement new strategies to grow membership and stimulate awareness for Steelwood.”

Opened in 1997, Steelwood Country Club is nestled within a 1,500 acre, secluded and gated community just north of Alabama’s Gulf Coast. The club features a beautifully conditioned 18-hole golf course designed by former U.S. Open Champion Jerry Pate. Stretching more than 7,100 yards, the championship golf course meanders through rolling hills, dense hardwood forests and natural wetlands. More than one third of the course, including the 18th hole, offers panoramic views of Steelwood Lake. The golf facility also has an expansive driving range and state-of-the-art teaching facility.

“We are absolutely thrilled to have Steelwood managed by Troon,” said Terry Chapman, president of Steelwood’s board of directors. “Not only does Troon bring a myriad of benefits to our members, but their success for managing private clubs and proven ability to help grow membership will be vital for Steelwood’s success.”
