Troon has been selected to manage Potowomut Golf Club in Warwick, R.I. Potowomut (pronounced pot-oh-wah-mut) is a historic private facility that features an 18-hole Walter Johnson-designed golf course. Johnson was a 17-year associate of Donald Ross.
Potowomut Golf Club was established in 1927 and is set on an old Indian campsite and former dairy farm. The word "potowomut" meant "land of fires" to the Narragansett Indians. The member-owned club has nearly 300 members who enjoy Potowomut’s family-oriented golf and social culture. The 6,380 yard tree-lined layout has progressed from fertile farmland to verdant fairways. The club’s heralded junior program has produced a number of state and regional champions.
“After an extensive interview process, we chose Troon to operate and manage Potowomut,” Potowomut Golf Club President John Harnett said. “Our members are excited for Troon to lead our club and to further enhance the golf experience, food and beverage operations and member activities.”
“Potowomut Golf Club has a rich history dating back to the 1920s,” Troon Privé President Ryan Walls said. “Our team will look to raise the service levels and improve the overall golf experience.”
