Troon, a leader in golf course management, development and marketing, has been selected to manage Aetna Springs Golf Course in Napa’s Pope Valley in Northern California.
Located among the rolling hills, ancient oaks and vineyards of Napa’s wine country, Aetna Springs is a 9-hole course reputed to be the oldest golf course west of the Mississippi. The original course opened in 1893. In 2007, golf course architect Tom Doak meticulously renovated and rejuvenated the century-old E.F. Hutton design, carefully maintaining the rustic beauty of the property. The challenging 3,052-yard layout consists of one par-five, two par-threes and six par-fours, adding up to a par of 35.
“Aetna Springs is an amazing golf course located just off the beaten path in Northern California’s wine country,” said Mike Ryan, senior vice president of operations at Troon. “The layout is so natural, as the shaping, strategy, conditioning and playability all work together with the beautiful surroundings. Aetna Springs is easy to get to and is a must-play for golfers visiting Northern California.”
The club’s 8,100 square-foot, two-story clubhouse is perched on a hillside overlooking the golf course and features a golf shop, restaurant and porch for outdoor dining.
