Kemp elected newest member of ASGCA

The Texas native recently joined Kimley-Horn and Associates after a long run with Colligan Golf Design.


The American Society of Golf Course Architects recently welcomed a new member to its ranks: Trey Kemp of Dallas. His election keeps the number of ASGCA members who practice around the world at 175.

Kemp is a golf course architect with Kimley-Horn and Associates in Fort Worth, Texas. Golf coursework in his portfolio includes Texas Rangers Golf Club in Arlington, Texas; Rockwood Park Golf Course in Fort Worth, Texas; Stevens Park Golf Course in Dallas; and Mustang Golf Course at Ross Rogers Golf Complex in Amarillo, Texas. Kemp has worked on more than 100 projects in 15 states.

Kemp began his golf course architecture career as a design associate with Jacobson Golf Design in Libertyville, Illinois, working with Rick Jacobson, ASGCA, and Doug Myslinski, ASGCA. After three years, Kemp was named senior golf course architect at Colligan Golf Design in Arlington, Texas. For the next 13 years, he worked under John Colligan, ASGCA, and was involved in many award-winning renovation and restoration projects.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in geography and planning from Texas State University and a master’s degree in landscape architecture from the University of Texas at Arlington.

Outside of architecture, Kemp’s golf experience includes 3½ years as an assistant golf professional as well as a stretch on the maintenance crew at Dallas National Golf Club while in graduate school.

Candidates for membership in ASGCA complete a rigorous, multi-phase application process that includes peer review of representative courses, discussions with project owners and a personal interview to assess the candidate’s professional capabilities.
