Wilmington, Del. – DuPont TranXit herbicide provides Poa annua control that works well with overseeding in the fall.
Recent field trials at North Carolina State University confirm Tranxit herbicide’s strong performance. The research, which focused on warm-season turfgrass, showed TranXit provided strong Poa control in the fall as well as control of perennial ryegrass in overseeded Bermudagrass in the spring.
“In terms of Poa control or taking out ryegrass, TranXit is as good as anything out there,” says Fred Yelverton, Ph.D., professor and co-director of the Center for Turfgrass Environmental Research and Education at NCSU.
“The results of our fall 2004 field research program throughout the southeast document the effectiveness of TranXit applied for Poa control on overseeded Bermudagrass,” says Chuck Silcox, Ph.D., global turf product development manager, DuPont Professional Products. “This research was conducted by leading turfgrass weed scientists, and it clearly demonstrates the benefits of waiting to apply TranXit until after Poa germination is nearly complete.”
Kevin Thompkins, golf course superintendent at True Blue Plantation, Pawleys Island, S.C., agrees.
“TranXit is a win-win situation because other herbicide programs complicate the timing of overseeding,” Thompkins says. “There’s a big window with preemergent herbicides, and you don’t get optimum control because the herbicides are put out so early. With TranXit, you can wait until Poa has emerged. You spray once and get great control.”
Thompkins relies on TranXit annually to get a good fall overseeding at his course.
“For the last four years, I’ve been spraying TranXit about the third week of October and overseeding at the end of October. I get a good, clean overseeding and great comments from my golfers. They appreciate the great conditions,” Thompkins says.
