An Edina company has bought the Fairways Golf Course with plans to remodel the course, clubhouse and change the name.

Tradition Golf owns golf courses near Northfield; Des Moines, Iowa; and Prior Lake. It has built several Arnold Palmer-designed courses and plans $250,000 in renovations to the golf course that opened in 2001, 41/2 miles east of St. Cloud

"We know we can succeed with this. We are more than comfortable with the experience we will provide golfers," said Steve Dowling, director of marketing for Tradition Golf.

The new name is Territory Golf Club. The Fairways was in receivership since 2003 and was being run by Continental Golf Corp. of Eden Prairie.

The clubhouse will be remodeled with a Minnesota lodge-style architecture. The dining room will go through a renovation to develop a larger bar and restaurant and lower-level seating for 250 people, Dowling said.

"The daily dining will be one of the better restaurants in the area. There will be a lot of attention to detail on the menu," Dowling said.

Tradition expects 24,000 rounds a year on the golf course from golfers paying $26 on weekdays and $32 on weekends. The course will undergo a redesign and a re-routing of the holes. The course is a par 72, measuring 6,921 yards.

"The golf course in itself as a physical structure is terrific," Dowling said.

Dowling said the company plans to add employees to the customer service and maintenance staff.

Tradition owns Legends Club in Prior Lake, Willinger's near Northfield and the Tournament Club of Iowa in Polk City.
