Tallahassee, Fla. – SouthWood Golf Club will host the Florida Junior Tour March 4 and 5.
Featuring the state’s best junior golfers, the SouthWood event will showcase male and female FJT members ages 16 to 18. Competing in the boy’s bracket will be Leon High School’s Kyle Cobb and recent Florida State University men’s golf team signee Cameron Knight (Wesley Chapel High School in Dade City). The field also includes two-time state champion Wesley Graham (Spruce Creek High School in Port Orange) and Jacksonville standout Major Forbess (Fletcher High School).
The 2005 FJT player of the year Sandra Changkija (Dr. Phillips High School in Orlando) anchors the girl’s bracket. Cassandra Blaney (Rochester, N.Y.) – the winner of the most recent FJT tournament at the Golden Hills Golf and Turf Club in Ocala – and Andrea Messer also will compete.
“These are the best young golfers in a state full of talented young players,” says SouthWood general manager Beth Murphy. “As the official course of the Florida State University men’s and women’s golf teams, SouthWood is the ideal test for golfers aspiring to play at the next level.”
First round pairings and starting times are available on the FJT Web site, www.floridajuniortour.org. After completion of the first round, all competitors will be regrouped by score within age group for their next round.
“These highly skilled young persons are eager to test their mettle against this Fred Couples/Gene Bates designed championship caliber course,” says Les Brown, director of the FJT.
