Rich Tock had spent 21 years at Ozaukee Country Club, a private club in Mequon with an active membership and a highly regarded course.
Widely respected throughout Wisconsin as a player, teacher and manager, Tock had no desire to go anywhere else. He thought he'd work a few more years at Ozaukee before retiring.
Then Andy Ziegler made him an offer he couldn't refuse: To run Erin Hills Golf Course, the acclaimed public facility in the Town of Erin. Ziegler bought the course from Bob Lang in October.
Suddenly, Tock finds himself energized by a career move he thought he'd never make. He has gone from an established club in the affluent North Shore area to a high-end public course in the Kettle Moraine.
"At 59, to take on a new venture is a challenge and it's a little scary," he said. "But it's very exciting."
Several factors made the job attractive to Tock, whose title is general manager.
