Troon has been selected to manage Tobacco Road Golf Club in the sand hills of Sanford, North Carolina. Troon Golf, the resort and daily-fee division of Troon will manage the golf operations, agronomy, food and beverage, retail, and sales and marketing for the award-winning property.
Located just 25 miles north of Pinehurst, Tobacco Road was built on land tended by the weather-worn hands of tobacco farmers, later shaped and moved through mining and sand excavation before finally being crafted and molded by an artist’s imagination and the revolutionary eye of the late golf course architect Mike Strantz. Established in 1998, the par 71, 6,557-yard design has been described as a master class in decision-making and composition.
“After thoroughly evaluating our options for management of Tobacco Road, we are excited to select Troon as the steward of Mike Strantz’s uncompromising design,” Tobacco Road Golf Club founder Mark Stewart said.
In addition to its incredible golf course, Tobacco Road’s practice facilities include a full-size range, chipping area, and putting green.
“Troon is proud and honored to partner with Tobacco Road and Mark Stewart,” Troon operations director Dana Schultz said. “Thisgolf course has been a successful family-run operation for decades. We look forward to carrying on the Stewart family vision and welcoming golfers to Tobacco Road Golf Club.”
