Panorama Village, Texas –The Village Golf Club, managed by Billy Casper Golf, is raising money for the American Red Cross’ Hurricane Katrina relief efforts by holding a helicopter ball drop Sept. 29 – the same day community and business leaders will be at the course for an outing to showcase major enhancements to the layout and clubhouse.
To enter the contest, which has a $25,000 grand prize, participants must donate $10 to The American Red Cross at the golf course or online at www.thevillagegc.com. By making a donation, supporters will “adopt” one of 500 golf balls that will be dropped from a helicopter onto a green at The Village. All proceeds raised by the contest will go directly to the Red Cross’ Hurricane Katrina response campaign.
Each golf ball will be numbered and the five balls dropped closest to the pin will win prizes, as well as qualify for a $25,000 grand prize. Prior to the helicopter drop a number will be selected and if one of the five balls that end up closest to the pin has the pre-selected number on it, the ball’s owner will win the $25,000 Grand Prize.
“Our hearts go out to those affected by Hurricane Katrina and we want to do anything we can to raise and contribute funds for the relief effort,” says The Village’s general manager Aaron Czajka. “What’s also great about this endeavor at The Village is people do not need to play golf to participate. Anybody can enter and has a chance to help and win.”
In order to ensure all funds raised go entirely to charity, The Village Golf Course is paying for all overhead for the event. The golf course is also coordinating donations to defray administrative costs associated with the benefit. One such donation is from Husky Helicopter of The Woodlands. Husky’s owner, Tom Head, will not only fly the craft dropping the golf balls, but has also donated $250 toward the cost of using the helicopter.
“We have renovated The Village’s facilities to enhance the course’s value to the community, which is why we have invited local leaders to see the progress we’ve made,” says Czajka. “Given the area’s tremendous response to supporting Katrina relief, we wanted to hold this ball drop benefit when many in the community are going to be on-hand at The Village.”
