The Creek Club at Reynolds Plantation named among top 10 private courses

The course, in Greensboro, Ga., was given the distinction in Golf magazine.

The Creek Club at Reynolds Plantation, a Linger Longer Community, has been named to the list of Top 10 New Private Courses in the United States by Golf magazine.

The Jim Engh design, a par 72 that measures 7,079 yards, was officially added as the fifth course of the Reynolds Plantation collection of award-winning golf layouts on June 1, 2007. The Creek Club is the first private facility at Reynolds Plantation, which celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2008.

The publication distinguished The Creek Club as “the most unique course in the Southeastern United States.” The private course list is part of the magazine’s annual rankings, with a special on-line presentation ( www.golf.com ).

Golf senior editor Joe Passov wrote that The Creek Club is “a classically rolling tract … with Engh’s innovative design handiwork. The never-a-dull-moment layout, including the par-5 18th with its three separate greens, is good to the last drop.”

Intended to create an enjoyable round every time out, significant features of The Creek Club’s contemporary layout include Engh’s signature rolling bunkers, Zoysia grass fairways and the twisting tributaries of Richland Creek, whose waters come into play on 14 holes. Distinctive bunkering complements the terrain and impacts shot values. The four sets of tees can alter holes by as much as 160 yards to ensure a fair challenge to a variety of golfers.

“It’s no surprise to Reynolds Plantation members and management that Jim Engh was able to crack the Top 10 in his first project eat of the Mississippi,” says Bob Mauragas, vice president of golf operations at Reynolds Plantation. “The Creek Club has been received with overwhelming success and is a complement to our members’ lifestyle here on Lake Oconee.”

Members of The Creek Club also enjoyed the opening of the new Clubhouse in October 2007. The Clubhouse features a blend of timeless architectural traditions with a contemporary state-of-the-art golf operation. The Creek Clubhouse includes a golf shop, locker rooms, a grille and lounge and a unique second floor Crow’s Nest.
