The team from Tijeras Creek Golf Club in Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., claimed a wire to wire victory and are the 2008 champions of the OB Sports National Team Championship, presented by GPS Industries. Tijeras Creek shot a two day 208-209-417 and edged out the Langdon Farms team that had a Sunday charge and shot 211 – 207 – 418. The defending champions from Sandia Golf Club in Albuquerque, New Mexico finished in third after shooting 212-210-422.
The winning team from Tijeras Creek included: Team Captain - Tom Horaney, Wilson Yu, Ron Bloes, Greg Creamer, Tom Ebdon , Tim Lucia, Matt McDevitt and Tom Davidson.
“I had a hunch our team was playing well (relative to the rest of the field) as our highest net score on day one was 72,” stated team captain, Tom Horaney. "Our team played well enough on day two to fend off the charge from the Landgon Farms team. Best of all, this truly was a total team effort, we used scores from each two man team, they should all be proud of the way they played."
This prestigious event, hosted by Indian Wells Golf Resort, kicked off with the first round contested on the John Fought-designed, Players Course and a final round played on the Clive Clark-designed Celebrity Course (home the LG Skins Game). Each participating golf club, 12 total from throughout the U.S., fielded an eight-person team made up of seven qualifiers from the club and the club’s golf professional. Prizes were awarded for special contests throughout the event as well as to the top three daily two-person teams for each flight. Complete final round results:
