SouthWood Golf Club was voted Tallahassee’s “Best Golf Course” in the October issue of Tallahassee Magazine, marking the third time in four years SouthWood has won the award.
The magazine polled its readers on their favorites in more than 100 categories including restaurants, shopping, recreation and entertainment. Golf courses were grouped in a single category, and SouthWood was the top vote-getter from among both public and private courses. The Fred Couples/Gene Bates designed facility has topped Tallahassee Magazine’s list three times, having also received “Best of” honors in 2004 and 2006. SouthWood’s Becky Sauers is a three-time Tallahassee Magazine winner as the area’s top golf instructor.
“We’re delighted to once again be voted the city’s top golf course by the readers of Tallahassee Magazine,” says Beth Murphy, SouthWood’s General Manager. “We strive to create a memorable experience for local golfers, whose patronage is crucial to our success. This award confirms that Tallahassee residents visit SouthWood when they want first-class golf in addition to outstanding service and amenities.”
Tallahassee Magazine is direct-mailed bi-monthly to select upper-income ($100,000-plus) homes, distributed by the Greater Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce to prospective businesses and residents, sold on local newsstands, and placed in the city’s top executive hotels.
SouthWood has received numerous accolades in its five-year existence. Most recently it was ranked one of America’s “Top 50 Courses for Women” by Golf For Women magazine. It has also been named among the Top-10 courses of the new millennium by Travel + Leisure Golf, earned a spot on Golf Digest’s list of “America’s Best New Courses,” and selected by GOLFMagazine as one of the top 35 public courses – out of 325 nationwide – to open in 2002.
