Syngenta announces photo contest winners

Close to 1,500 votes were cast at GIS.

With almost 1,500 votes tallied, Syngenta announces the two grand-prize recipients of the Condition. Perform. Recover. photo contest. Neal Sitzman from the New York Red Bulls and Logan Horne from Louisa County High School in Virginia were chosen as crowd favorites by votes cast between Feb. 1 and 8. Each will be awarded a grand prize of $2,500.

“This contest was a great opportunity to celebrate the achievements of turf managers like Neal and Logan and recognize them for their work-life balance on and off the job,” said Stephanie Schwenke, turf market manager for Syngenta. “Syngenta knows that maintaining golf courses and athletic fields is time intensive and stressful, so in addition to promoting exceptional turf health, we also want to emphasize the importance of personal health and fitness. I want to thank everyone who submitted their photos and stories and, once again, want to congratulate Neal and Logan for the excitement around their personal experiences.”

In their entries, Sitzman and Horne highlight the stories behind their winning photos.

“It’s out here where I’m grounded in nature’s beauty,” Sitzman said about kayaking on the lake. “I am able to condition my body and mind or recover from recent games or stress when out paddling in the water while soaking up the sun, listening to the birds sing and the wind in the trees.”

“My picture is of our football field,” Horne said about the Louisa County High entry. “Everything you see was done by high school students. We could not do it without our community and the students’ hard work.”

Like successful athletes, turf must be conditioned to perform at its best and recover quickly from stress, and the same goes for successful turf managers. Last summer, turf managers were asked to share a photo showing how they condition themselves or their turf to perform well and recover from stress.

Eight finalists were chosen by Syngenta, and attendees of the 2018 Golf Industry Show as well as visitors to ConditionPerformRecover.com selected their favorite photos.
