Hubbard, Ore. – Turf-Seed announced that one of its slender creeping fescue varieties, Seabreeze GT, recently demonstrated the best survival rate among commercial varieties in a three-month study performed by Pure-Seed Testing where the varieties were exposed to salt levels of 10,000 ppm of NaCl for 12 weeks.
“We were impressed and surprised at the results we found,” says Crystal Rose-Fricker, president of Pure-Seed Testing. “Seabreeze GT showed unusually high tolerant rates to the salt baths. Slender creepers normally have decent salt tolerance, but this is pretty extraordinary.”
Seabreeze GT ranked as the top performer, with a survival rate of 99.3 percent after 12 weeks of being in the salt bath. After collecting data through week 10, Seabreeze GT still had yet to show any signs of damage from the salty environment.
Seabreeze GT was originally bred for its natural tolerance to the non-selective herbicide, glyphosate. Seabreeze GT also has excellent turf quality and an endophyte content of 12 percent.
