OMT subsurface aeration systems from Advanced Aeration Systems will install on all 18 playing greens and two practice greens on the new Gary Player-designed Blair Atholl, a private course that’s part of a golf club community project being developed on 1,700 acres of land near Johannesburg, South Africa. Advanced Aer uses sensor-based automatic controls to provide real-time data about the conditions of a green’s soil profile. The system monitors and regulates oxygen, moisture and temperature.

Avendra, a procurement services company, announced that it had signed or renewed contracts with more than 275 suppliers in 2004. Avendra contracts with more than 900 suppliers across a wide range of categories, including food and beverage, room operations, engineering, grounds and agronomy, spa and more. 

Bayer Environmental Science reorganized the southern golf sales region to better serve its golf course customers. The reconfigured territories and the sales reps covering them are:
· Brian MacCurrach: Southeastern Florida and Puerto Rico;
· Matt Bradley: Southwestern Florida;
· Joe Conoly: Northern Florida and Southern Georgia;
· Trey Warnock: Northeast Georgia, South Carolina, Western North Carolina and Southwestern tip of Virginia;
· Mike Willey: Eastern North Carolina, Southern West Virginia, Virginia and Myrtle Beach, S.C. area; and
· Scott Harms: Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee and Atlanta.

Three weeks after Bayer Corp. established a tsunami relief effort and announced it would match employee donations throughout the United States dollar for dollar from its foundation, $260,000 was contributed to Save the Children. Bayer’s donation will help Save the Children carry out long-term rebuilding and recovery projects, including job skills training, loan assistance, repairing and rebuilding of schools, homes and health centers, and providing emotional support for trauma victims.

Dr. T’s Nature Products acquired Web-Away spider repellent, its patent and the product’s trademark. The acquisition also included several EPA-registered labels that include deer, rabbit and vole repellent. The company plans to make additional acquisitions.

Nitamin-coated sand distributor Fairmount Minerals expanded its manufacturing capabilities in the South and distribution capabilities in the Northeast and South, expanding its reach to the entire eastern half of the United States. Additionally, the company made a distribution agreement with Weaver Turf & Golf Solutions and Pro Plus Golf Services to widen the distribution of the sand in the northeastern states, South Carolina and Florida.

GreenFactory Productions released an online tine tool that lets superintendents specify the size and spacing of tines and produces a list of calculations and a visual graphic for aeration. The online tine tool moves some technology from GreenFactory GrassWorks software application to the Internet. GrassWorks is a tool for handling the mathematics behind a superintendent’s job. The tool calculates how much soil is removed and the percentage of the area the tine job is covering. It also calculates the number of passes required to achieve a certain coverage.

Players Turf International provided synthetic turf for the elevated putting green that served as the fashion show runway of the PGA Magazine Fashion Fairway at the 2005 PGA Merchandise Show in January in Orlando, Fla.

The 10th Annual E-Z-GO Boys & Girls Club Golf Classic raised $32,700 for the Augusta Boys & Girls Clubs. Kevin Holleran, vice president of E-Z-GO, presented a check to the Boys and Girls Clubs board of directors at their December meeting. The money is used for facility improvements/expansions, equipment purchases and to support on-going programs. Fifty-eight teams competed in the tournament, which was contested at Woodside Plantation Country Club in Aiken, S.C.
