Name: Steve Bill
Age: 37
Job: Golf and grounds superintendent for Verandah, a master-planned community developed by The Bonita Bay Group along the Orange River in Fort Myers. I manage the community's roadway landscaping, parks, nature trails, bike paths and 18-hole championship golf course. I was responsible for achieving certification in the Florida Yards and Neighborhoods program for Verandah's sales center, main boulevard and the River Village amenities center. I am also in the process of certifying the golf course as an Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary.
In the near future: I'm looking forward to the construction of the next 18-hole championship golf course at Verandah. Being involved in the planning and construction of a new course is one of the most rewarding aspects of my job. In the spring, we'll offer clinics on the Florida Yards and Neighborhoods program, along with guided nature tours.
Long-term goals: I would like to stay with Verandah and grow with the community and surrounding area. I also plan to continue my education and obtain a pilot's license to operate single-engine planes.
Hobbies, interests and activities: The highlight of my spare time is watching my daughter play soccer. I also enjoy fishing, golfing, camping and basketball.
Family: Wife of 10 years, Danielle, and two children: Arielle, 7, and Domenic, 1. My extended family is in Simsbury, Conn., and Spring Lake, Mich.
Last book read: I am reading "My Life" by Bill Clinton.
Role model: Both my mother and grandfather, who taught me the value of honesty, integrity and hard work. They also taught me to appreciate the small things in life.
Words of advice: I believe the measure of a person is the quality and duration of the memories we leave with the people we have touched. So be kind, considerate and respectful to everyone you encounter.
