Delhi, N.Y. - Mark Slavens was hired as an assistant professor in the Golf/Plant Science Department at SUNY Delhi.
“We are extremely pleased that Mark has accepted our offer to join our team; he is a welcome addition,” says Dominic Morales, professor and dean of the Applied Sciences and Recreation Division.
Slavens will teach in the turf management and golf course management program area.
“We continue to expand our programs in this area, and Mark’s education and vast experience will greatly enhance the education students will receive at SUNY Delhi,” Morales says.
Slavens is a graduate of Utah State University where he earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Horticulture, a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Business Administration, and a Master’s of Science degree in Plant Science/Turfgrass Science. His research at Utah State was in the area of Turf Plant Water Relations specifically as it relates to Poa annua management on golf courses. He has extensive experience working on golf courses, and athletic fields holding various positions from crew foreman to assistant superintendent. As a student at Utah State, Slavens received numerous awards and scholarships and was the recipient of a USGA Greens Section internship for the Southwest region.
