Grand Blanc, Mich. -- PGA Tour player Doug Barron and Proderma will donate sunscreen to Grand Blanc- and Flint-area youth programs via "Proderma's Cool Kids Wear Sunscreen" campaign, commensurate with Barron's performance in the Buick Open July 28 through 31 at the Warwick Hills Golf and Country Club.
Year-to-date, Barron has competed in 10 Tour events via the campaign, donating more than 6,400 units of Proderma sunscreen to local youth charities and junior golf programs. His best finish came at the EDS Byron Nelson in May, where finished tied for third and donated 1,000 units of sunscreen to the Dallas Chapter of the First Tee Program.
To lend visibility to the campaign, Barron will wear the "Proderma's Cool Kids Wear Sunscreen" logo on his headwear, and skin-cancer prevention and related information will be distributed on the tournament grounds. Barron also will make himself available to local television, print and radio media to discuss the Cool Kids Wear Sunscreen campaign, its educational goals and potential impact.
"The Buick Open is a great tournament and I am excited to introduce the Cool Kids Wear Sunscreen campaign to young persons and junior golfers in the area," Barron says. "Education is the key to changing the habits of the next generation of golfers and outdoor enthusiasts. Applying sunscreen before heading outdoors can save lives."
Barron, a native of Memphis, is a champion of youth related charities and causes, and regularly donates his time and money to the St. Jude Children's Hospital and Le Bonheur Medical Center.
"Proderma is proud to be associated with a stand-up person like Doug Barron, and we are excited about the opportunity to team with him to increase awareness about skin cancer and other skin diseases that threaten the health and lifestyle of millions of American every year," says Dan Brown, Proderma's vice president of golf operations.
