Sumner Meadows celebrates anniversary

Closure was once considered, now golf course is thriving with 'free golf for a year' contest.

Sumner, Wash. – Sumner Meadows Golf Links will celebrate its 10th anniversary Sept. 19 through 23 with commemorative greens fees, daily prizes and contests, and a drawing with one person to win “free golf for a year.”

The 10-year anniversary is a particularly momentous milestone because the course had once faced closure prior to the City of Sumner and Billy Casper Golf working together to enhance the facility’s conditions and profitability.

Each time golfers play Sumner Meadows during the anniversary week, they will be entered in the “free golf for a year” contest. Based on availability of tee times, there is no limit to the number of rounds a person can play to enter the contest. No purchase is necessary to enter the drawing once and all entries must be made in-person at the golf course. The drawing will be Sept. 23.

Sumner Meadows’ anniversary celebration also will feature $20 greens fees – the original cost to play the course when it opened in 1995. These “turn-back-the-clock” greens fees will be further enhanced by a twilight rate of $15 after 4 p.m. and daily contests for prizes that include golf equipment, apparel and tickets to an upcoming Seattle Mariners baseball game.

“Sumner Meadows’ 10th anniversary is an important milestone for the course and we want to share this happy occasion with the wonderful golfers and community who’ve made it all possible,” says BCG regional manager Tom Barrett. “We are proud of the enhancements to conditions and service at the facility and this week is a terrific opportunity to showcase the progress we’ve made.”

Sept. 19, the city of Sumner mayor Barbara Skinner will kick off the week’s festivities with an event highlighting the many recently completed course projects that have significantly enhanced the overall golf experience at Sumner Meadows.

“Sumner Meadows Golf Course is an important part of our community, adding to our overall quality of life,” says Skinner. “Our region has benefited from the presence of this championship golf and recreational facility.”

In addition, $2 of every greens fee will be donated by the golf course to the Sumner Family Center, a community-based organization that offers a wide range of programs and resources to support and strengthen local families and children.
