Research completed by Jim Frelich of J. R. Frelich & Associates shows that the use of SYNC fungicide activator and Pennstar brand of PCNB fungicide significantly reduced the incidence of gray snow mold compared to plots treated with PCNB alone or the untreated check. A tank-mix containing 16 ounces per 1,000 square feet of Pennstar and 1 pint of SYNC per 100 gallons of spray solution showed fewer disease centers, reduced area infected, less turf injury and better turf quality after 160 days of snow cover.
In addition, the study showed that disease control with SYNC fungicide activator was greater at reduced water volumes meaning less time, less labor and less water per fungicide application. In test plots, SYNC plus PCNB applied in a spray volume of 1 gallon per 1000 square feet showed significantly reduced disease centers, reduced infection areas compared to plots where the SYNC and PCNB combination was applied in a spray volume of 2 gallons per 1,000 square feet.
