Atlas Turf International and Pure Seed announced the full-scale production of STRATIS with ACCe Technology, the first herbicide-resistant seeded seashore paspalum. Developed by Pure-Seed Testing, STRATIS is offering turf managers control over invasive grasses while ensuring resilient, sustainable and high-performing playing surfaces.
STRATIS with ACCe combines the proven performance of Pure Seed’s seeded paspalum with ACCe herbicide-resistance technology from the University of Georgia, allowing selective control of unwanted grasses such as bermudagrass, crabgrass and goosegrass. Compatible with ACCe-inhibiting herbicides, including sethoxydim, fenoxaprop, fluazifop-butyl, and pinoxaden, STRATIS allows turf professionals to maintain clean, pure stands with greater efficiency and confidence.
“STRATIS represents a defining step forward for turfgrass management,” Pure Seed and Pure-Seed Testing President Crystal Rose-Fricker said. “By integrating ACCe herbicide resistance through natural breeding practices, we’ve created a product that simplifies turf conversion and supports long-term stand purity without compromising the beauty, texture, or durability that make paspalum so special.”
The innovation began with research by UGA professor Dr. Paul Raymer, who identified the mutation conferring herbicide resistance in paspalum. Pure-Seed Testing then conducted extensive multi-year trials to develop, evaluate, and select parent lines, resulting in the commercial release of STRATIS with ACCe.
STRATIS offers salt and wear tolerance, disease resistance, a deep green color, and a fine-to-medium texture with tight density, all contributing to the playing surface. Adaptable across mowing heights, STRATIS is ideal for greens, tees, fairways, roughs, sports fields, and landscaped areas.
“With production ramping up and seed now available in sufficient quantities, STRATIS is ready to transform how turf projects are built and managed,” Atlas Turf International President John Holmes said. “From new construction to renovation, turf professionals can now interseed STRATIS into existing turf and eliminate competing grasses using approved ACCe-inhibiting herbicides—all while keeping courses and facilities open for play. This efficiency reduces downtime, resource use and cost.”
STRATIS with ACCe is particularly valuable for new course construction and renovation projects, where managing weedy grasses during establishment has traditionally required fumigation or extensive site preparation. The herbicide resistance built into STRATIS allows turf managers to maintain purity with standard control methods, supporting both sustainability and regulatory compliance in regions where fumigants are restricted.
“STRATIS is a reflection of what’s possible when innovative research and industry collaboration come together,” Fricker said. “Working with Atlas Turf International, we’re bringing to market a product that empowers turf professionals globally to achieve the purity, performance and sustainability standards the modern industry demands.”
STRATIS Seeded Paspalum with ACCe Technology is available through Atlas Turf International and Pure Seed and their licensed distributors.
