The Golf Course Builders Association of America Foundation has been accepted as a member of the America's Promise Alliance organization in recognition of its work for the creation and development of the Sticks for Kids program.
Founded by former Secretary of State Colin Powell, the Promise Alliance is comprised of non-profit groups, corporations, community leaders, charitable foundations, faith-based organizations and others that believe children must have access to fundamental education, life and health resources to succeed at home, in schools and in the community.
"The GCBAA Foundation was invited to join the Alliance because its Sticks for Kids programs fulfills that organization's Five Promises aimed at achieving their mission," GCBAA Executive Director Paul Foley said. "It’s great to partner with such a large alliance of various organizations and individuals dedicated to assisting and educating America's youth in an abundance of activities and life skills."
The Alliance's Five Promises are designed as a guidepost to focus efforts of the partnership network to help the nation's at-risk youth experience healthier and more productive lives. The Promises include: caring adults who are actively involved as parents, teachers, mentors, coaches and neighbors; safe places that offer constructive use of time; a healthy start and healthy development; effective education that builds marketable skills and opportunities to help others by making a difference through service.
Sticks for Kids is marking its 10th anniversary. Since its inception, it’s expanded to 407 programs and continues to grow. Programs have been established in all 50 states and eight military bases.
