Over the course of a month, some mysterious things were happening at the 18-hole Deer Run Golf Course in Hamilton, Ill., according to The Hawk Eye in Burlington, Iowa.
The towel hanging from the ball washer on the 16th tee disappeared day after day, prompting greenskeeper Todd Lewis to believe someone was playing a prank.
"We were missing four or five towels a week," said course superintendent Paul Deyo. "The greenskeeper figured someone was playing a prank on him. He blamed some golfers who didn't share his sense of humor."
Golfers eventually solved the case of the missing towels at Deer Run: A squirrel was stealing the towels to build a nest.
