Troon has been selected to manage South Side Country Club, a private facility in Decatur, Illinois. Troon Privé, the private club operating division of Troon, will manage club operations, food & beverage, golf course agronomy, and membership marketing.
Established in 1904 as The Decatur Fishing Club, the club added a 9-hole golf course and changed its name to South Side Country Club in 1924. Legendary Midwest golf course architect Dick Nugent, a University of Illinois graduate who designed or remodeled more than 60 courses across Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin, renovated the 18-hole course. Today members enjoy a beautiful tree-lined course with fast greens and plush fairways. The original nine-acre lake that helped start the club today is a landmark at the entrance to South Side.
“We are thrilled to be partnering with Troon Privé, the premier private club management organization in the club industry, to enhance our member experience at our historic club,” South Side Country Club board president Richard Heavner said.
Phillip Martin, Troon SVP of operations, described the club’s location as being among “the most picturesque settings in Central Illinois. We are excited for the future of the club and working with the board in defining a strategic direction for the future.”
