South Carolina facility is a finalist for Urban Land Institute Awards for Excellence

Daniel Island in Charleston has been chosen as one of 23 finalists in North and South America for the institute’s award, a land planning industry recognition program.

Daniel Island has been chosen as one of 23 finalists in North and South America for the Urban Land Institute’s 2007 Awards for Excellence, widely recognized as the land planning industry’s most prestigious recognition program.

In its 29th year, the awards program is the centerpiece of ULI’s efforts to identify and promote best practices in all types of real estate development. The awards recognize the full development process of a project, including construction, economic viability, marketing, management and design.

“It’s an honor to be chosen as a finalist for this important industry awards program,” said Matt Sloan, president of The Daniel Island Company, the master developer of the 4,000 acre mixed-use community within the City of Charleston. “Our company has always strived to incorporate best practices and achieve excellence in the planning and development of Daniel Island. Being recognized by our peers for this – especially in the context of the many excellent mixed-use developments throughout the country today – is very gratifying.”

A team of ULI awards panel jurors will visit Daniel Island to evaluate a number of criteria, including leadership, contribution to the community, innovations, public/private partnerships, environmental protection and enhancement, response to societal needs and financial success.  As many as 10 projects from around the country will be chosen as winners and announced in Chicago on May 11.

The Urban Land Institute (www.uli.org) is a nonprofit education and research institute supported by its members.
