South Africa calls Player again

Gary Player will design another golf course in South Africa – this time on the KwaZulu-Natal north coast. Player was awarded the contract to design the new course at Zimbali Lakes Resort, a coastal development that stretches along South Africa’s Indian Ocean.

While the goal at hand is to create a golf course that meets the needs of both professionals and amateurs, conservation of the natural landscape will be the primary consideration during the design phase. The design team will consult the services of Gary Player’s brother and conservationist, Ian Player, in order to preserve the natural character of the environment.

Aug. 9, Gary Player attended a contract-signing ceremony and media launch at the Zimbali Lakes Resort. While there, he spoke of his fondness for KwaZulu-Natal and reminisced about visiting his grandfather’s farm as a young man and fishing along the North Coast.

Backed by IFA Hotels & Resorts and Moreland Developments, Zimbali will see additional direct investments in the form of two additional hotels, vacation club suites and villas, as well as a residential component. A golf academy is also on the drawing board.
