Troon announced it has been selected by Florida State University to manage Seminole Legacy Golf Club, a newly renovated facility in Tallahassee, Florida. Troon Privé, the private club operating division of Troon, will manage golf and club operations, food & beverage, golf course agronomy, and membership relations and marketing.
Seminole Legacy Golf Club is considered one of the premier university golf courses in the country and hosted an NCAA Men’s Regional Championship this past spring. The golf course recently underwent a $10 million renovation in 2020 led by Nicklaus Design Company. The scope of the renovation included a complete redesign of the golf course, with only one hole remaining from the original routing. The new Nicklaus-designed course sits on 174 acres, measures 7,800 yards, plays to a par 72, has two practice ranges, and includes a new 12-hole par 3 course for the university’s golf teams. All tees, fairways, rough, bunkers, greens and cart paths are new.
Originally designed by Bill Amick, the course opened in 1962. For years, the club has served as the home of Florida State University’s men’s and women’s golf teams and still does today. The recent course renovation has effectively repositioned Seminole Legacy as one of the top collegiate golf clubs in the country.
“Florida State has contracted with one of the premier organizations in the golf industry to ensure that our outstanding Seminole Legacy Golf Club continues to deliver an exceptional experience for our patrons and student-athletes,” said Florida State vice president for finance and administration Kyle Clark. “Under the new agreement, Troon will be responsible for all maintenance and management of the club, including the state-of-the-art facilities for our intercollegiate teams.”
The agreement expands Troon’s presence at facilities with college ties. The company also manages Papago Golf Club in Phoenix, Arizona, home of Arizona State University’s golf teams; Atkins Golf Club at the University of Illinois in Urbana, Illinois; and Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa, home to the University of Iowa’s golf teams.
“We’re thrilled to partner with Florida State University and Seminole Legacy Golf Club,” said Mitch Harrell, executive vice president, Troon Golf. “The newly renovated golf course is outstanding, the clubhouse is immaculate and the university’s commitment to providing members with a premier private club experience is clear. We’ll look to further elevate the member experience by delivering superior service, amenities and playing surfaces.”
