The Sea Pines Resort has announced Brook Sentell as the new superintendent of its Heron Point by Pete Dye and Ocean Course.
Sentell comes to the resort from Diamondhead Country Club on Mississippi’s Gulf Coast where he was superintendent for four years. Previously, he was senior assistant at both North Carolina’s Highlands Country Club (two years) following a stint at Hilton Head’s Long Cove Club (five years). He holds a bachelor’s degree in turfgrass management from Clemson University as well as an associate degree in horticulture technology from Spartanburg Technical College.
“Brook is the ideal person to head our agronomic and maintenance team for our Heron Point and Ocean golf courses,” says Cary Corbitt, vice president of sports & operations. “His expertise and experience will be invaluable as the two layouts continue to gain stature and combine with Harbour Town Golf Links to give us three world-class golf courses.”
Recently named “Golf Course of the Year” by the South Carolina Golf Course Owners Association, Heron Point underwent a series of subtle modifications in 2014 under Pete Dye’s close supervision to make the layout more “player friendly.”
Love Golf Design, headed by PGA TOUR star Davis Love III and his brother Mark, are currently performing and overseeing a total renovation of the Ocean Course. It will reopen in September 2016.
