Jim Rohen, recently promoted senior golf course superintendent.

Good golf news for the Village. Jim Rohen, the young man who oversaw the development and grow-in of our magnificent Links at Kahite golf course, has been promoted to head all three courses in the Village, with the new title of senior golf course super-intendent.

Rohen, 34, holds a bachelor's degree in horticulture, with an emphasis on turf grass management from the University of Tennessee. He interned for two summers under the highly respected David Stone, at the Honors Course at Ooltewah, Tenn., near Rohen's Chattanooga home.

Rohen reports to Village Golf Director Jim West, who calls Stone "one of the best bent-grass men around." Stone's students, he says, are sought after by golf courses throughout the Southeast. "We're lucky to have Jim Rohen," West said.

Rohen came to the Toqua course in 1995 as assistant superintendent, and was promoted to superintendent there a year later. He moved to Kahite as superintendent in 2001.

Tom Ault, the golf course architect who laid out the Kahite course, said it had the "best grow-in" under Rohen of any of the many courses Ault has designed.

Rohen's assistant at Kahite, Mike White, has been promoted to superintendent there. Jarrod Williamson and Mark Watson continue as superintendents at Toqua and Tanasi, respectively.

Rohen says his objective is to "continue to improve the Village golf courses, working with all three of the superintendents.

He says Toqua's greens need rebuilding, while Tanasi needs major work on its bunkers.
