National Links Trust has started Phase 1 of its full-scale rehabilitation project at Rock Creek Park Golf in Washington, D.C. Rock Creek Park Golf is one of the oldest public golf facilities in the country and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

Phase 1 of the project focuses on preparing the site for new facilities that will reshape the golfer and community experience. In the coming weeks, vertical construction will begin on a new maintenance facility, modern clubhouse, driving range and putting course. Construction will begin with the modern maintenance facility.

Next spring, NLT anticipates reopening at least nine holes at the facility in a modified routing to accommodate ongoing clubhouse and facility construction. As work continues, playing conditions will steadily improve as corridors return to their historic widths and turf continues to benefit from enhanced sunlight and airflow.

This multi-phase project, among the more significant municipal golf revitalizations in the country, will ultimately deliver redesigned 9-hole regulation and 9-hole par-3 courses by Hanse Golf Course Design, expanded community amenities, a youth golf hub with First Tee-Greater Washington, DC, and new trails and green spaces open to all park visitors.

“We are proud of the momentum that has brought the project to this milestone,” National Links Trust co-founder Will Smith said. “We are grateful to the thousands of supporters who have helped make this possible. A bright and exciting future is ahead for Rock Creek Park Golf.”
