Rob Roy wins third Carolinas Championship

Rob Roy of The River Club in Suwanee, Ga, survived a scorecard play-off to win his third Carolinas GCSA golf championship in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Liberty, S.C. - Rob Roy of The River Club in Suwanee, Ga, survived a scorecard play-off to win his third Carolinas GCSA golf championship in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Roy fired a one-under par round of 71 on the Avocet Course at Wild Wing Plantation to finish tied with Chuck Green of Sage Valley Golf Club in Aiken, S.C. Roy, who was six-under par at one point during his round, won the scorecard play-off on the number one handicap hole.

Roy entered this year’s event as defending champion. He won his first Carolinas GCSA championship while serving as golf course superintendent at Oldfield Club in Okatie, S.C.

More than 300 golfers competed on three courses in the Carolinas GCSA golf championship to launch the association’s Conference and Trade Show week (Nov. 14 through 17). Larry Boswell of Carolina Turf Products in Summerfield, N.C., won the affiliate championship shooting a round of 73.
