The RISE governing board elected Stephen P. Briggs as chairman during its 15th annual meeting in Lake Las Vegas.

Research Triangle Park, N.C. – The RISE (Responsible Industry for a Sound Environment) governing board elected Stephen P. Briggs as chairman during its 15th annual meeting in Lake Las Vegas. Briggs, director of the BASF specialty products department, was elected for a two-year term beginning in January 2006.

As chairman, Briggs will lead a 12-member governing board representing 200 members of RISE, a national trade association representing the manufacturers, formulators, distributors and other industry leaders involved with specialty pesticide products and fertilizers used in turf, ornamental, pest control, aquatic and terrestrial vegetation as well as other non-food/fiber applications.

Prior to becoming chairman, Briggs served his first term on the RISE governing board from 1999 to 2003. From 2000 to 2003, Briggs was chairman of the RISE program and membership committee. He was elected to return to the board in September 2004 as vice chairman and chairman of the strategic oversight council for one year.

“Steve has given long, loyal and dedicated service to RISE and the specialty pesticide industry,” says RISE president Allen James. “His commitment has helped contribute to the success of our association.”

Briggs addressed some of the challenges facing the specialty pesticide industry during his welcome speech as new chairman.

“Our industry serves a central role in providing effective tools for use in combating harmful and troublesome pests,” Briggs said. “RISE will continue to support our industry’s efforts to provide valuable and effective products and services to our customers.”
