Retirees help superintendent

At Augusta, Ga.'s Forest Hills Golf Club, two volunteer members help spruce up the course.

Last fall, a retired club member approached golf course superintendent Darren Davenport to volunteer his services to improve the golf course's conditions.

Bob Bracy, 69, has been filling divots on a regular basis since then, since Davenport doesn't have a large enough staff to complete this task on a regular basis. A few months ago fellow member Dick Thruwell, 73, heard about Bracy's efforts, and joined him.

"It helps tremendously," said Davenport, who calls the fairways the best they've been since he started at Forest Hills in 1999. "I ride by and thank them every morning I see them. They do a tremendous job. They're like 30-year employees."
