Advanced Sensor Technologies, a provider of wireless soil soil sensing technology was recently purchased by a Pennsylvania-based venture capital group with primary holdings in the technology sector. Details of the sale were finalized in August. The company will continue to be led by AST founder Walt Norley.

“It is an incredibly exciting time in our company’s history,” says Norley, president and ce.o. of Advanced Sensor Technologies. “We have the financial and logistical support to continue to enhance the industry’s first soil monitoring system, enabling us to operate in the best interest of our customers.”

The company will continue to offer RZ Wireless, a wireless root zone monitoring system, and its remediation product, RZ Aer for subsurface aeration, and will continue to support and look for ways to increase U.S.-based customers, as well as expand international product distribution. AST’s soil monitoring and remediation systems are installed on some of the industry’s most prestigious golf courses located throughout the world.

“AST’s soil sensors and monitoring software were installed at Merion about two years ago,” said Matt Shaffer, director of Golf Operations at Merion Golf Club. “It’s a great system that helps people like me make more informed decisions concerning turf grass conditions, and specifically our water management application. Ultimately, I’m confident that AST will provide continuous product improvements to coincide with the golf course superintendent’s growing need to manage water more effectively.”

As part of the restructuring effort, Advanced Sensor Technologies moved its headquarters from North Palm Beach, Fla., to King of Prussia, Pa. In addition, the company is looking to reorganize personnel and other organizational aspects throughout the next three to six months
