Reston National completes range enhancements, expansion

Golf Digest to host equipment demos May 6 - 7 at the Northern Va. Course.

With the completion of extensive driving range and practice facility renovations, Northern Virginia's Reston National Golf Course, owned by Billy Casper Golf ("BCG"), announces it will host Golf Digest "Experience Tour" equipment demos which are free and open to the public on Saturday, May 6 and Sunday, May 7.

A national initiative by the publication in key markets to showcase the latest offerings of golf gear, the events at Reston National will be held 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. An array of prizes for skills challenges and other competitions will be offered by participating equipment manufacturers.

The range and short-game area - which include additional hitting stations, new target greens, landscaping and a reconfigured practice putting surface and chipping area - are re-opened for play and will be on full display during Golf Digest's equipment extravaganza featuring cutting edge manufacturers such as Callaway Golf, Graphite Design, Nike and Ping.

The other courses hosting events are Arroyo Trabuco near Los Angeles, St. Andrews Golf and Country Club in Chicago, TPC at Herron Bay in southeast Florida and Cowboys Golf Club in the Dallas area.

"Golf Digest including Reston National in such an exclusive rotation of courses and is a major testament to the impressive enhancements to our practice facilities," says BCG regional manager Joel Gohlmann. "Reston National's classic layout has always been a favorite and our range and clubhouse renovations greatly heighten golfers' overall experiences here."

Reston National completed a clubhouse remodeling last month. With mint leather club chairs, expanded dining areas and menus, flat-screen TVs and a pro shop featuring brand-name equipment and apparel lines, players are taking advantage of the added pre- and post-round opportunities to relax and enjoy their days at the course.

Opened in 1969 and designed by legendary Ed Ault, Reston National is a traditional, tree-lined course featuring generous landing areas throughout the 6,871-yard layout.  The course is routed through the gently rolling hills of Northern Virginia and conveniently located just off the Dulles Toll Road - 10 miles from the Washington, DC area's Beltway.

The layout sports a great mix of holes - short ones demanding accuracy and longer routings requiring that elusive combo of power and precision. One of the course's most impressive sequences starts on the par-4 seventh - the original signature hole and a stout, 422-yard dogleg left that bends around a lake to an elevated green.  The eighth and ninth are testing par-4s to the right and each require a well-struck and well-placed drive. The final hole of this demanding stretch is the par-4 10th - a 459-yarder with a fairway that narrows for longer hitters and a sloping green from front-to-back flanked by sand on the right and left.
