RDC Golf Group to manage Putnam National Golf Course

Vice president John Napier named general manager.

RDC Golf Group, Inc., a golf course ownership and management company headquartered in Monroe Township, N.J., announces that it has been selected by New York’s Putnam County to manage the operations of Putnam National Golf Course and Banquet Facility in Mahopac. RDC was awarded a five-year contract by the County.

RDC plans to officially open the course on April 18, and the snack bar should be operational by early May.

Founded in 1993, RDC owns and operates the renowned Forsgate Country Club (Monroe Township, N.J.) and the private Tuscawilla Country Club (Orlando, Fla.).  RDC also leases Olde York Country Club (Chesterfield, N.J.).

“We are excited to be awarded the contract to manage Putnam National Golf Course,” said RDC chief executive officer Christopher Schiavone.  “We look forward to putting our experience to work by providing Putnam County residents with a first-class golf and hospitality operation.”

Originally constructed in 1955 as The Country Club at Lake McGregor, the course was renamed Putnam National Golf Course following its purchase by Putnam County in 2003.  This daily-fee facility features a 6,779-yard, par 71 golf course that was originally designed by William F. Mitchell.  In addition, Putnam National offers a practice area, snack bar, pub grille and catering.

RDC’s vice president of field services John Napier, who joined the company in 2004, will expand his current responsibilities to include serving as general manager of Putnam National Golf Course.  He will be based out of the club’s offices in Mahopac.

Napier brings a wealth of experience to this position having worked in the golf and hospitality industries for over 20 years, the last 12 of which in the New York tri-state area.

Previously, Napier served as general manager of the then-RDC managed Bergen Hills Country Club (River Vale, N.J.), Minisceongo Golf Club (Pomona, N.Y.), The Golf Club at Mansion Ridge (Monroe, N.Y.) and The Architects Club (Lopatcong, N.J.), supervising all facets of these facilities.  He began his career in golf with American Golf Corporation in Santa Monica, Calif., following a six-year stint with Hyatt Hotels and Resorts in the company’s food and beverage department.

“John’s expertise in managing facilities similar to Putnam National, his years working with professional golf management and hospitality companies and his specific experience with golf operations in this market, make him an excellent choice to assume the reins as general manager of Putnam National,” said Schiavone.
