Jim Kron has been named head superintendent for Poplar Hill Golf Club in Farmville, Va. Kron, a Member of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America, comes to Poplar Hill from Horseshoe Bay Golf Club in Egg Harbor, Wisc., where he served as assistant golf course superintendent since 1998. He is a graduate of Horry-Georgetown Technical College is South Carolina, earning an associate’s degree in golf course management.
“I’m very excited to be working on this project and with the many good people involved,” Kron said. “My wife and I look forward to joining the Farmville community. Poplar Hill is going to be an outstanding golf course and I feel very fortunate to be associated.”
“We are excited to have someone with Jim’s experience in golf course maintenance and turf care,” Arthur Jeffords, president of Lighthouse Golf Group which will manage the facility, said. “He brings the type of bentgrass experience that we were searching for with the all bentgrass planned for Poplar Hill,” said.
The 18-hole championship course, designed by architect, Rick Robbins, is the centerpiece of a 1,060-acre master planned mixed-use residential/resort community in Prince Edward County in central Virginia. Heritage-Links Golf Course Construction of Houston, Texas is the general contractor for the project. The property is located four miles from downtown Farmville and 60 miles southwest of Richmond. The master plan for the community includes the golf course and clubhouse, an inn and executive conference center and approximately 1,000 to 1,200 residential units including single family homes, golf villa duplex units, townhouse units and condominiums.
