Poipu Bay hires new director of golf

Poipu, Kaua’I Hawaii – Poipu Bay Golf Course has named Craig Sasada as its director of golf.

Sasada most recently held the position of head golf professional at Kapalua Resort’s Plantation Course on Maui.

“We are pleased to welcome Mr. Sasada as the new director of golf for Poipu Bay Golf Course and to the island of Kaua’i,” says Sue Kanoho, executive director of the Kaua’i visitors bureau. “Given his background working at world-class golf resorts, Mr. Sasada fits perfectly at Poipu Bay and in Kaua’i, which has numerous outstanding golf resorts and courses.”

Sasada has more than 20 years of experience in the golf industry and is a Class A1 member of the PGA of America. He is a graduate of San Diego Golf Academy and PGA Business Schools I, II and III.

Over the past two decades, Sasada has held positions at four golf courses on Maui: assistant golf professional at the Royal Ka’anapali Golf Course, assistant golf professional at Waiehu Golf Course, head golf professional at Sandalwood Golf Course and his most recent position at the Plantation Course.

Sasada’s background includes experience as a teaching professional, supervision of guest service activities, development of junior golf programs and coordination of major golf events.  At Kapalua, he was involved with the administration of various aspects of the Mercedes Championships, the PGA Tour season kickoff event that takes place at the Plantation Course.

Poipu Bay is an 18-hole championship golf course situated on 210 oceanfront acres on Kauai’s southern coast. A Robert Trent Jones Jr. design, Poipu Bay has won numerous awards and has been consistently rated among the top golf courses in Hawaii and the United States.

Since 1994, Poipu Bay Golf Course has been host to the annual PGA Grand Slam of Golf, the year-end competition between the four major PGA championship winners of the year. The 2005 PGA Grand Slam of Golf is scheduled for November 21 to 23 at Poipu Bay.
