Synthetic Turf International, a global synthetic turf supplier and installer of premium synthetic putting greens and related synthetic surfaces, recently provided synthetic turf for the indoor synthetic practice putting green at the Barrington, R.I, residence of PGA Tour veteran Brad Faxon. The project was completed and installed by STI’s Warwick, Rhode Island, distributor Synthetic Turf of New England.
Constructed of STI’s exclusive nylon NP 50 putting surface, the four-hole putting course was designed according to Faxon’s exacting specifications. Challenging undulations were incorporated into the green during the design process.
“Having practice facilities close at hand provides the opportunity for practicing my game with convenience and comfort,” states Faxon.“The green is not only well-designed and quality-constructed, it is realistic and championship-quality. My home putting green provides the opportunity to sharpen the putting skills of any player, and is a source of fun for friends and family too.”
STI’s tour-quality synthetic putting green enables consistent putts with a true roll from every position on the green. The synthetic putting surface is virtually maintenance free and provides the look, feel and playability of a natural grass green.
Commenting on the project Synthetic Turf of New England President Russ Maymon states, “I met Brad at last year’s Deutsche Bank Open in Massachusetts. He told me he had an opportunity to putt on an STI green at the Titleist facility in Ocean City, California, and how impressed he was with the quality of the green. Shortly thereafter we began the design process to install a green in Brad’s basement. This indoor green will allow Brad to hone his putting skills year round in the comfort of his own home.”
Brad Faxon became a professional golfer in 1983 and has amassed eight wins on the PGA Tour. He has also played on two Ryder Cup teams. Faxon has built a reputation as one of the best putters in golf history, leading the PGA Tour in Putting Average in 1996, 1999 and 2000. In 2005 Faxon was the catalyst behind STI’s donation of a putting green to the Expeditionary Medical Facility at Camp Arifjan in Kuwait. The goodwill gesture began with Faxon enlisting Maymon and Synthetic Turf International to provide a putting surface for the soldiers.
