Pesky geese learning not to cross the border

Border collie is ultimate goose repellent.

Fake coyote cutouts. Goose repellent. Sirens.

The Lee's Hill Golf Club tried them all in an effort to rid the property of geese.

Sometimes, the pesky birds would leave for a little while. But they'd always come back, chewing on the greens and pooping everywhere.

"We were cleaning the greens a couple times a day. It was getting on the equipment, people's shoes. It stank," said course superintendent Brian Roudabush.

Then Lacey came to town--or rather, Roudabush brought her to town.

With one stern look, the freckle-faced border collie does what the other devices couldn't: Scares the geese off for good.

"The dog works better than any other method," said Roudabush, who adopted Lacey over the summer when her original owner could no longer care for her.

After some training, he brought Lacey to the golf course and told her to "go get 'em."

Instinctively, the wiry pup, then about a year old, began chasing geese. She never lays a paw on them. She simply harasses them until they pack up and leave.

"Her job is fairly easy," Roudabush said. "As soon as they see her, they're gone."
